Here is the premise. A beautiful country with plenty of light during half of the year, hard-working people… Well, sort-of… pockets full of cash, dramatic landscape and an increasing interest in its filmmakers and actors.
So why? WHY? Why are films and series such as Vikings and others that demand the Norwegian landscapes filmed in other countries like Scotland, Iceland and Ireland?
Let me tell you why. We do not have an incentive program, which means that the other countries actually give money to the production companies to let them know that we are willing to help you. Iceland, who have been in the middle of an economic crisis, are able to help shows such as Game of Thrones and films like Dead Snow 2, but Norway can’t. Because we don’t have the money? No. Because we don’t have the will? Maybe.
I cannot fathom why the next fantasy blockbuster cannot be made in Norway. Besides from our knuckle-dragging, lingering politicians.
