Not today

The boy tugged at his teacher
“The other kids are mean!”
“Not today, boy!
The girls need to be heard!”
He took his seat and spoke no more

The youth stammered for help
“I don’t know how to make friends!”
“Not today, kid!
We have the environment to care about!”
He took his seat and spoke no more

The young man cried to his girlfriend
“Please do not leave!”
“Not today!
I need to care for myself!”
He took his seat and spoke no more

The man spoke to the world
“I need help!”
“Not today, man!
The next generation needs our help!”
He took his seat and spoke no more

The priest spoke to his congregation
“He needed our help!”
“Today, today…
We could have helped!”
The man was laid to rest and spoke no more
